Renee's AIESEC turn of successes

I did not join AIESEC by coincidence but through my sister who had been in AIESEC before at Daystar University as VPER. I was really interested with the work she used to do at home regarding AIESEC and the amount of conferences that she used to attend both National and International. She used to inspire me by the amount of knowledge she had acquired and her skills which were not related to what she was studying in school. I promised myself that when I join Campus in 2005 October at Catholic University I would join AIESEC. This is what I exactly did without any hesitation.

I took responsibility after two weeks by joining an Organizing Committee as the Communications Manager for a conference that was referred to as NEW (National Exchange Weekend) which is now referred to as PIONEERS Conference. At this conference I was able to communicate with people from East Africa and I was able to convince them to attend the conference which was a great success in terms of attendance. And so the MCPs from different countries in the year 2007 met in Kampala and decided to make it a regional conference and they named it PIONEERS Conference.

Two months later I was involved in the A-YES project as the Team Leader of Learning Team. My work was to ensure that I provide learning materials to the interns and the participants from micro-finance institutions. This went on successfully but I had to resign just before the project ended because I was running for the EB.

Three months down the line, Mutembei Kariuki outgoing MCVPTM of AIESEC in Austria convinced me to run for the EB as People Development since there were no members to run for the different portfolios. I took initiative and decided to take up a leadership role. This was my greatest year of success for AIESEC in CUEA because I was able to recruit and retain enough members to run the organization. At PIONEERS Conference CUEA had the highest number of members in attendance that is 60 members. My inspiration and motivation that year was from my EB, my members and Kristian Thorstead the then MCVPPD AIESEC in Kenya from Denmark. We restored CUEA back to full members from members in alert :) This also the time that I got two mentors- social and professional mentor.

As the EB, our LCP Mutembei Kariuki challenged us to rerun for the same portfolios in order to do greater things for CUEA. This exactly what we did. Things at first were running smoothly up until our LCP left for other opportunities for a couple of months. The EB started to fall apart slowly and we started getting personal. For me I took it as an oppportunity and I took this time to grow myself in AIESEC. I attended my 2nd AFROXLDS International Conference in South Africa. Then i got a great opportunities to facilitate conferences in Kenya and Uganda. This is the time I discovered my passion in AIESEC which is facilitating and inspiring other members to take up such great opportunities. I got the greatest opportunity to facilitate at a GN conference called WENALDS in Germany. I was the youngest, the only one from Africa GN even among the delegates and the one with the least experience since I was at the EB level and all the other facilitators were at the MC level. I was to deliver the whole agenda to 30 delegates in a home group setting for 5 days. The work was too much and overwhelming bu I must say I was able to pull it through.

I continued venturing into my leadership journey by applying for National Trainers Team(NTT) in my 3rd AIESEC year. I was responsible for AIESEC in Egerton and Moi University. Distance and finances was a major constrain for me to carry out my role in these two LC's but I managed to work things out especially with AIESEC in Egerton and their success of them becoming full members was derived from this year. They also won the bid to host National Conference which was a huge achievement for them and for me as well. I got to facilitate in the second WENALDS Conference in Italy through endorsements of me facilitating in the previous WENALDS.

In between the three years of my Leadership experience I really got opportunities to facilitate at local, national, regional and international level. This is the Skye that has kept me in AIESEC for this long and I really owe it to AIESEC.

I had applied as a CEED for Liberia but was unable to do the CEED due to financial constrains. I am currently an EP for AIESEC CUEA and really looking for a cool internship anywhere in the world. My Resume keeps getting enriched through my AIESEC Experience and AIESEC work experience. Recently I got a chance to Chair Egertons' election conference and CUEA LCTMS.

I will leave this organization as an achiever who had a positive impact on society and become a great alumni for this great organization.
